Communication is an important ingredient in any human concern. Misunderstood communication can have disastrous effect. Therefore, this paper considers the significance of effective communication in health care. The study discovered that lack of effective or delayed communication can lead to accident, injury, wrong prescription, loss of lives, increase in medical expenses amongst others. For the purpose of this study, data were gotten from health workers, patients and their relatives. These data were analytically presented using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results show various modes of communication, their relevancies and challenges. The consequences of ineffective communication were brought out. This paper concludes by recommending the need for using all kinds of modern and more effective forms of communication as a means of enhancing productivity and safety in health care.
