Abstract

This presentation consists of two parts. Both are concerned with the validation of the Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL)-8D instrument. In the first data were collected from four multi attribute utility instruments, viz the EQ5D, HUI 3, SF6D and AQoL-8D and also from two subjective wellbeing (SWB) instruments, the Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) and the Satisfaction with Life questionnaire.

In the second study a larger, more representative sample of Australians was used in a detailed comparison of the 8 dimensions of the AQoL and the dimensions of the SWB instruments. Despite the expectation based upon psychological theory that the results should differ significantly they indicated surprising convergence.

To our knowledge this study represents the first direct comparison between MAU and SWB instruments.
