Session Description
Quality adjusted life years are the main outcome measure used in health care economic evaluations. Important aspects of investments in interventions may not be captured by quality adjusted life years. Neglecting them might involve an underestimation of returns on investments. This might be adequate in, for instance, interventions comparing alternative curative programs or medicines. However, in comparing institutions, in public health interventions, or social and long-term care this might be problematic. This session aims to present case studies that illustrate the importance of alternative outcomes like economic growth and non-health outcomes.
